Alberta Ballet School recognizes that making the decision to study away from home is a very important one.

Our faculty work together to ensure that your transition to studying in Calgary is positive, safe and successful. One third of Alberta Ballet School’s student body are not local residents of Calgary, and 20% of our students join us from countries outside of Canada. We prioritize our programs and support networks for our international students throughout our entire organization.

Our knowledgeable faculty includes warm and approachable instructors, a dedicated medical team and sport psychologist, an English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor and a full-time residence team. We work together to ensure a safe, inclusive and supportive environment, where each student thrives.

Health & Wellness

International students are required to carry health insurance. Students may be eligible for Alberta Health Care Insurance Program (AHCIP) coverage. Alberta Health Care allows students to receive medical treatment from a doctor or hospital at no additional charge. It also covers any X-rays that may be needed to determine an injury.

Admissions Support

Our Admissions Department can assist you in enrolling at our school, obtaining the needed Study Permits and making custodian arrangements (if required). Admissions can also assist you with your entry into Canada* and help you navigate the various immigration departments. We look forward to helping you arrive in Canada, ready to make the most of this exciting stage in your dance journey. *Please note that Alberta Ballet School is not an authorized immigration consultant.

Language Support & Proficiency Assessment

Our Academic faculty includes an English Language Learner (ELL) instructor. This instructor assists all of our international students with their English language proficiency. Upon acceptance, all international students whose first language is not English will participate in an ELL assessment to determine individual proficiency levels. Students receive several hours of personal ELL instruction each week either working individually or in small groups. Additional time is available for students with little to no English, including increased one-on-one time and extra practice work. Our students report that Alberta Ballet School is a welcoming environment to develop and strengthen their English language skills.
